Pünktchen und Anton

£7.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

Emil Erich Kästner (1899 – 1974) was a German author, poet, screenwriter and satirist, known primarily for his humorous, socially astute poems and for children's books including Emil and the Detectives.

Pünktchen und Anton was first published in 1931.

The novel is about the girl Luise Pogge, called Pünktchen, who lives in Berlin in affluent circumstances, and the boy Anton Gast, whose standard of living is far below that of Pünktchen. Anton lives alone with his sick mother in a small apartment. In order to make ends meet, Anton has to earn money next to the school and help his mother with the housework.

Pünktchen lives with her parents, the walking stick manufacturer Fritz Pogge and his wife, who have hardly any time for them, the nanny Miss Andacht and the cook Berta, called "the fat Berta", and the dachshund Piefke in a large apartment.

Although her parents are wealthy, Pünktchen must go begging without the knowledge of her parents with the nursling, because Miss Devot's dubious fiancé (Pünktchen calls him "Robert the Devil") extorted money from her. While begging, Pünktchen meets Anton, who also begs, but out of real need.

Please note: Text is in German.

The covers of the book have a little rubbing and bumping. Inside, the pages are clean and the binding is sound.
