Three volumes bound as one, this is the most complete collected edition of all of Donne's poetry to the date of it's publishing, these three volumes being published as volumes 23 to 25 of Bell's "The Poets of Great Britain". The "Life of Dr. Donne" is signed J.W., i.e., Izaak Walton. Each volume has an extra engraved title page, the imprint at the bottom of which reads: "Printed for John Bell, near Exeter Exchange, Strand, London, Sept. 24th, 1779." The engraved frontispiece of Donne, in volume I, is dated 1778, as is the engraved title page in volume II. The colophon at the end of volume I reads: "From the Apollo Press, by the Martins, July 29, 1779"; for volume II the same except the date is August 5, 1779, and the same for volume III, except the date is August 12, 1779.
This 16mo volume is bound in full leather with a tooled spine, and overall is in good used condition commensurate with age. The front board hinge is split but not detached, and the leather binding is somewhat worn and rubbed, particularly on the spine and corners. There is an old owner's signature on the title page.
