Report from the Select Committee on Framework Knitters Petition

£34.99

Product description

Report from the Select Committee on Framework Knitters Petition. Knitting International.

Together with the Minutes of Evidence taken before them. Ordered by The House of Commons, 1 April 1819.
This is number 453 of a limited edition reprint of 750, issued by Knitting International in Eastern Boulevard, Leicester and printed by H. Cave and Co. of Cumberland Street in the old quarter.

Foolscap, blue paperback. Heavily chipped covers are largely unmarked: very good. Yellowed parchment pages tell the moving story of Leicester woollen hosiers, overwhelmed by the cheaper and inferior worsted market. There is a three page Select Committee report followed by 47 pages of evidential minutes offered to the House of Commons.

This copy has been used in some editorial context, and there are several pages of pencil marginalia, crossings-out and correction fluid with an editorial bent. A grubby fingerprint adorns the base of p13.

This publication represents an important piece of history in the Leicester Knitwear story .

Wonder how this unique item ended up online?

Most of the second-hand items you see online have been donated, by supporters like you, to our high street stores. Each item is then priced, photographed and listed on this site by our amazing team of volunteers from across the country.

After you have bought your item, our team of volunteers package and dispatch it from the Shop straight to you or your chosen recipient.

All profits from the sales of our goods go towards funding Oxfam's work around the world. We rely on your donations to sell online so please keep the cycle of goodness going!

Oxfam Bookshop Market Harborough

Oxfam is the UK's largest second hand bookseller. Oxfam bookshops offer a wider selection of books than most shops, from modern fiction and leisure interest to more specialist subjects, classics, and rare or collectable books. We also stock an attractive range of greetings cards and a good selection of stationery. Come and browse!

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
