WAS £150.00 £75.00

Product description

Number 25 in 'The Abbey' series, published in 1937. The book is in very good condition for its age and soundly bound. The red cloth binding is blind stamped with a pattern on the front and down the spine. The spine colour is faded, and the ends are bumped; cover corners are very lightly bumped and rubbed. Text block edges have light dust soiling and foxing speckles, and the half-title and final leaf of the block are foxed. A few small foxing spots may be found on inside pages, plus occasional finger marks.
The front end paper has a colourful book prize label, neatly written and dated 12th May 1939. On the front free end paper is an embossed bookseller's name and address.

Elsie J Oxenham's Abbey Series of 38 titles are her best-known and best-loved books. She is considered a major figure among girls' story writers of the first half of the twentieth century, being one of the 'Big Three' with Elinor Brent-Dyer and Dorita Fairlie Bruce. There are several appreciation societies worldwide, and this book would interest many fans and collectors.
