Although the cover page states "with illustrations by Adolf Thiede" there are no illustrations throughout the book, only on the cover. The dust jacket is missing and the cover shows signs of shelf wear (slight fading, boxing and bumping. The (cut) binding is loose and the pages are yellowing.

The cover is red and the title is embossed in dark gold. on the front cover is a colour illustration from the story. The first 3 pages are stamped "Crowe Parish Institute" and the first of these stamps has 104 written in the centre in red ink. The first page also has the name of a previous owner written in pencil.

There is a contents page at the front and the back 20 pages details other books published by The Religious Tract Society.
