The Civil Engineer in War - Three Volumes

£100.00

Product description

During the Second World War (1939-45), much engineering work of considerable novelty and outstanding interest was carried out, but considerations of security and other reasons prevented its receiving the publicity in the technical press which it undoubtedly merited. The (Institution of Civil Engineers) Council were well aware of this and of the risk that, after the war, the dispersal of those responsible to other activities might lead to the relegation of these records to the archives. They considered that much information of value to the profession might thereby be lost, and towards the end of 1944 they decided to take steps to secure the promise of Papers to be read or published at an appropriate opportunity. As a result sixty-eight Papers were obtained, of which twenty were selected for discussion at the special Conference on War-Time Engineering Problems held at the Institution on the 4th - 6th June. The remaining forty-eight were reserved for publication at a later stage and the whole sixty-eight Papers form the contents of the present volumes.

Corners and edges are rubbed and bumped, but the contents of all three volumes are in excellent condition. With fold-out plans and tables.

Combined weight 2375g. Each volume 21.5 x 14.5 cm.
