The Collects of the Day. Volume 1

£45.00

Product description

The Collects of the Day. Volume 1 - An exposition critical and devotional of the collects appointed at the communion.
Edward Meyrick Goulburn, D.D., D.C.L.

Volume 1 of two, containing the preliminary essays, and the collects from Advent to Whitsunday inclusive.
Published by Longmans, Green, and Co., of Paternoster Row. Fifth edition 1897. pp 423 plus publisher's gazette.

Plum cloth with no dust jacket: robust feel to the boards; corners and edges good; spine strip also good but showing wear, especially at the tips and hinges, where there is fraying and a 4 cm tear to the rear hinge line.
Gold titles to spine. The text block within feels weak: the book was clearly very well used and there is some moderate cracking inside; the binding thread can be seen in places. Fox spotting towards the rear and all pages unevenly tanned.

The owner of this book made numerous pencil notes inside and left a prayer sheet with various names thereon. Some neat handwriting on the rear paste down, dated 1917. Block edges soiled and poorly planed.

Wonder how this unique item ended up online?

Most of the second-hand items you see online have been donated, by supporters like you, to our high street stores. Each item is then priced, photographed and listed on this site by our amazing team of volunteers from across the country.

After you have bought your item, our team of volunteers package and dispatch it from the Shop straight to you or your chosen recipient.

All profits from the sales of our goods go towards funding Oxfam's work around the world. We rely on your donations to sell online so please keep the cycle of goodness going!

Oxfam Bookshop Market Harborough

Oxfam is the UK's largest second hand bookseller. Oxfam bookshops offer a wider selection of books than most shops, from modern fiction and leisure interest to more specialist subjects, classics, and rare or collectable books. We also stock an attractive range of greetings cards and a good selection of stationery. Come and browse!

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
