The Confessions of Jean-Jacques Rousseau

£19.99

Product description

Jean-Jacques Rousseau was an 18th-century Swiss philosopher. His 'Confessions' recounts his life openly, including many unsavoury and embarrassing details, in order to present a portrait of himself that is 'in every way true to nature'. In doing so he tries to show that, although he is flawed, he is essentially a good and honest being, a thought process he expands to humanity as a whole in his philosophical work.

This volume is from the Easton Press collection of the One Hundred Greatest Books Ever Written. They were published from 1975 and each have individually designed leather bindings with gilt design work and lettering. The text block edges are also bright gilt. The ribbon book mark and moiré silk end papers are in complementary shades of salmon. The leather binding is grey with a delicate vine-like pattern in gilt panels on the front, back and spine. It is in excellent condition, appearing new.
