The Encyclopaedia Britannica Eleventh Edition/Twelfth Edition

£275.00

Product description

Sixteen large, heavy books containing the 29 volumes of the eleventh edition published in 1010-1911 plus the three new volumes of the twelfth edition published in 1922. Matching bindings with half dark red morocco spines and corners, and dark red cloth boards. The spines are uniformly lightly faded and the gilt titles remain bright. Slight wear at some of the corners. Occasional dark surface marking on the boards. All the binding is sound with no cracking to the morocco spines. Some volumes have some light warping at the lower edge of the text block where they've been stored in a not quite upright position but the spines are not twisted or affected by this. Tanning to the pastedowns and first/last endpapers. Very fine India paper which seems to have resulted in some of the title/end pages being partly crumpled with vertical creases. This is the New Form which is printed in gilt at the base of the spines. Illustrated throughout with drawings in the text, plates in both colour and black & white, pull-out maps. Published in New York. Scarce set in UK. A very attractive complete set, extremely heavy.

Oxfam Bookshop Lymington

Lymington is on the South coast, bordering on the New Forest National Park which was created as a Royal Forest in 1079 by William the Conqueror, and first recorded as 'Nova Foresta' in the Doomsday Book in 1086. Our Oxfam Shop at 73, The High Street is in a lovely Georgian building, the tallest in Lymington. The elegant Georgian buildings lining the wide main street were built mostly for merchants in the local salt trade. The famous Saturday market brings the town to life with its variety of stalls. The area is renowned for outdoor pursuits, including camping, sailing, windsurfing, and surfing, as well as forest walks and horse riding.
