The subtitle reads “consisting of Twenty-two splendid steel engravings from the works of the most eminent painters with descriptive letterpress.” Each of the 22 illustrations is by a different artist and is engraved by a different engraver. Each has a rather tanned transparent sheet of protective paper. The text for each picture is very brief and to the point.

D. Omer Smith hardback with no DJ. There is an ornate design on the front with the title in embossed gilt letters of the title; on the rear it is embossed without the gilt. Edges of the text block in gilt. Binding is stitched and good. There is a prize label on the reverse of the front cover “for arithmetic” and dated 1870. There is some foxing and tanning to the front and rear ffep. There is a watermark/stain at the top left of the book from the back to approximately one third of the book. No other marks.

Lots of print on demand copies but this is the original.
