The Old Testament, First Published By The English College, At Douay, A.D. 1609 And The New Testament, First published By The English College At Rheims, A.D. 1582. With Annotations, References, and An Historical And Chronological Index. From the last London and Dublin Editions. The Whole, Revised And Diligently Compared With The Latin Vulgate. To Which Is added An Illustrated And Comprehensive Dictionary, Based On The Works Of Camlet, Dixon, And Other Catholic Authors, And Adapted To The English Version First Published at Rheims and Douay. As Revised By The Ven. Richard Challoner." Undated. The dedication on the ffe and presentation page are both dated 1905. The Approbation is dated 1865. Used hardback in good condition. Massive, full leather binding with heavy embossed decoration front and back. Gilt decoration to front board and spine. Metal clasps to close the book. Generel rubbing and wear to edges of boards, top and tail of spine, raised bands on spine etc. Gilt edges to text block. Front hinge is cracked. Ffe has written dedication and 3 inch closed tear at bottom and is slightly grubby. The Presentation page has similar closed tear which has been repaired with tape. There is slight, sporadic foxing throughout the book. There is heavy drinks staining through several pages of Deuteronomy. There is a crack at the rear binding between the last page of text and the Family Portrait section. This latter section is in rather poor condition with tears, repairs, foxing and grubbiness. The photographs have been removed. The binding is overall secure.
