The Illustrated Dictionary of Gardening, a practical and scientific encyclopaedia of horticulture for gardeners and botanists, edited by George Nicholson, assisted by J.W.H. Trail (in the parts relating to insects and fungoid diseases) and J. Garrett (in the fruit, vegetable, and general garden work portions), published by L. Upcott Gill in 1885, in 8 volumes, green hardback with illustrated front boards and blind stamping on back. Spine on volume 8 torn but complete, general wear on boards and bumping on spine and corners in each volume. Gilt edging to pages. Personal inscription on front fly sheet of first volume from 1885. B/W illustrations throughout plus colour plates in each volume. Divisions I and III are from a different set to the remaining volumes, same covers but different endpapers and address for the publisher. Volumes are called Divisions.
