Edward (1858 – 1938) was an American diplomat, politician, and an adviser to President Woodrow Wilson. He was known by the nickname Colonel House, although he had performed no military service. He was a highly influential back-stage politician in Texas before becoming a key supporter of the presidential bid of Wilson in 1912. Having a self-effacing manner, he did not hold office but was an "executive agent," Wilson's chief adviser on European politics and diplomacy during World War I (1914–18) and at the Paris Peace Conference of 1919.

These two volumes contain many of his papers, correspondence etc. , covering the period 1912-1917, ending with American entry into World War One. Most concerned with his political dealings, much concerning President Wilson, including many letters from the President to House. . He had donated these to Yale University, and agreed to them being arranged and published under the supervision of the then Professor of History, Charles Seymour.

Two b/w photos.

Covers a little grubby. Occasional light spotting. All lightly browned. Complete and all legible.

Like many Oxfam shops we also stock ethically sourced new products, gifts, cards and Fairtrade food.
