This scarce volume of The Mirror contains the weekly issues from June 26 to December 25 1824 plus a supplementary memoir of George Canning M.P. and an index to the volume. Original brown cloth hard covers with gilt titles on the spine; the spine is faded and has bumping at the top and base. Light wear at the corners of the boards, a strip of slightly faded material across the top of the rear board and a few slightly paler spot marks on the front board. The binding is good apart from a cracked hinge at the front pastedown. No inscriptions. Some foxing/tanning through the text block. The frontispiece portrait of George Canning has ghosted onto the title page opposite. Small amount of damage to the centre of the fore edge of pp 461-464. Full title reads: ‘The Mirror of Literature, Amusement, and Instruction: Containing original Essays; Historical Narratives; Biographical Memoirs; Sketches of Society; Topographical Descriptions; Novels and Tales; Anecdotes; Poetry, Original and Selected; The Spirit of the Public Journals; Discoveries in the Arts and Sciences; Useful Domestic Hints; etc. etc. etc.’

Oxfam Bookshop Lymington

Lymington is on the South coast, bordering on the New Forest National Park which was created as a Royal Forest in 1079 by William the Conqueror, and first recorded as 'Nova Foresta' in the Doomsday Book in 1086. Our Oxfam Shop at 73, The High Street is in a lovely Georgian building, the tallest in Lymington. The elegant Georgian buildings lining the wide main street were built mostly for merchants in the local salt trade. The famous Saturday market brings the town to life with its variety of stalls. The area is renowned for outdoor pursuits, including camping, sailing, windsurfing, and surfing, as well as forest walks and horse riding.
