The Parables of Our Lord, Illustrated by J.E. Millais - First edition, 1864

£175.00

Product description

First edition, published by Routledge, Warne, & Routledge, London, 1864. Green covers with embossed design, titles in gilt, gilt-edged pages. Inner text in black and red. The text consists of passages from the Bible. The 20 plates, illustrations by John Everett Millais, are steel engravings in black and white by Dalziel Brothers.

Although containing only 48 numbered pages, this is a substantial book. Many of the pages are not numbered. Those that are, are numbered on one side only and are very thick, almost boards. All pages and plates are present. The pages together (not including covers) are approx 1 inch thick. There is no dust jacket.

Binding is weak, cracked through in places as seen in photograph 3. Spine is damaged top and bottom and in two other places. Corners are worn. Pages are free of inscriptions but with scattered foxing throughout. Please view all photographs.

Despite the condition this remains a very collectable book.

This book will be sent by courier.
