The Plimsoll Sensation - The Great Campaign to Save Lives at Sea

£18.99

Product description

The story of a Victorian philanthropist who reformed shipping laws, saved thousands of sailors' lives and became a national hero. Commemorated in the name "Plimsoll Line", a load line to regulate the depth to which ships may be loaded to prevent floundering. Used hardback in good condition with dust jacket in good condition. Dedication from the author on the title page. The d/j is intact (not price clipped) with two minor closed tears (0.5 cm) at the bottom of the spine. However, the front panel and spine appear to have been exposed to liquid at some time, with the printed layer coming free from the rest of the jacket at the top and bottom edges. The jacket is stained internally at this point. The book (black cloth boards with silver gilt titles to spine) shows slight wear to the top and tail of the spine and slight impact from liquid damage along the top and bottom edges of the front board. The book is clean throughout internally with tight binding. The central photographs show slight impact of liquid contact along their top and bottom edges.
