Hardback with 4 steel engraved plates. All edges are gilt. In the original red cloth over bevelled boards. The spine carries gilt friezes to the head and tail. The title, in gilt , with elaborate border is set against an embossed black border. The front board carries an embossed gilt urn with gilt and black embossed Key pattern border. The outer edges have equally elaborate black embossed black borders. The back board is blind stamped to match the latter. The spine is heavily faded and there is a lengthy gift inscription to the first endpapers.

Book condition is in fair condition with extensive foxing to the front and rear endpapers with the odd spot of foxing on some pages.Front endpaper almost broken at hinge but holding.All corners heavily bumped.Heavy wear to top and tail of spine. Minor wear to edges of boards.Hard to accurately date this book but gift inscription to the first endpaper dates it as 1885 at least.Small amount of water damage to the centre of most pages which is barely noticeable and doesn't effect readability of the text. A good collectable copy for the age. Dimensions :- 19.7 x 14 x 3.4 cm.
