Red/ gilt cloth bound cover, with ornate black gilt inlay. B&W engravings of the poets mentioned. Broadsheet title page includes coloured engraving of Burns' Cottage, Alloway and coloured lettering with protective, tissue paper covering. Includes a preface by the author, helpful list of engravings and authors, and a full contents of the authors found in all four volumes. Page edges are brightly gilt.

Volume 1 of a 4 Volume set on the poets and poetry of Scotland, 1219 to 1737 presenting a comprehensive view of Scottish poetry in a condensed and readily accessible form complete with biographies of each author mentioned.

Good condition. Fairly loose/weak binding. The corners are bumped and there is some staining on the back board. some wear on the top and bottom of the spine and the bottom edge. Front end papers have pencil marks together with a bookplate of of former owner. Gilt around the edges of the book is in pretty good condition, with some marks on the bottom edge. The pages themselves are clean and in very good condition.
