The south and Bene

£35.00 Out Of Stock

Product description

1992. First edition. Translated by Sarah Marsh. In these novellas Adelaida Garcia Morales explores sensitive territory, and her narrators observe it with the adolescent's amoral clarity. In 'The South', Adriana's sad, enigmatic father presents her with his own suicide on her fifteenth birthday. She embarks on a cathartic journey from the harsh north to the mysterious south in search of the father she loved and admired, and gradually comes to terms with her loss. Continuing the theme of absent fathers, 'Bene' is the story of a servant in a remote country house who takes over following the departure of her master. Scarred by an ambigious relationship with her father, Bene comes to dominate the lives of the narrator and the son of the house, to chilling effect. Good and evil, innocence and corruption mingle in these timeless stories, in a Spain where the supernatural has not lost any of its power.
Very good dust jacket. Interior all very clean and fresh. A lovely copy of this collectable edition.

Oxfam Books & Music Olney

Welcome to Oxfam Books And Music Olney, situated just off the market square in Stanley Court opposite the Co-op. Come and browse our extensive selection of books, music, DVDs, computer games and cards. In our shop you can discover a great range of material from the latest modern fiction to classic literature and vintage LPs. We are always happy to receive your donations of books or music, and you can choose to Gift Aid them to Oxfam. We might also be able to collect particularly large donations - just ask. We are always interested in hearing from people who wish to volunteer with us. Just pop in to collect an application form.

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
