The book has red boards and gilt, black and red lettering and illustrations to the spine.

The book has an black illustrated upper board with gilt and red lettering.

There is bumping to the upper part of the spine and heavy wear.

There is bumping to the lower part of the spine and heavy wear and tear.

The spine has been faded by sunlight.

The upper board has bumping and wear and tear to the lower outer corner.

The upper board has wear along the upper, lower and outer edges.

As can be seen from the pictures there is an inscription on the front endpages stating:

'Emma Penney a Prize for attendance made at the Ugborough Board School 1884'

The front endpages have stains and foxing.

The rear endpages have tanning and foxing.

There is foxing on the pages throughout.

The rear board has bumping in the lower outer corner.

The rear board has stains.

The upper, lower and outer pages edges have foxing and there are stains to the upper page edges.
