The Wildfowler in Scotland

£45.00

Product description

The book contains 50 illustrations by the author, who was the son of the pre-Raphaelite artist John Everett Millais, as well as a frontispiece in photogravure after a drawing by John Everett Millais, 8 photogravure plates and 2 colour plates (all are present). Half-vellum binding with blue paper-covered boards. The covers are heavily stained, the spine more so. There is significant loss to the spine and spinal margins, with the upper 4 cms of the vellum covering of the spine (which includes part of the gilt titling) missing, and part of the underlying cloth unstuck. Parts of the board edges are heavily worn, the corners are bumped, and a small area of the vellum is missing at the front spinal margin. The rear hinge is weakening, but the book is otherwise tightly bound. There is foxing to the pastedowns and the end papers at front and rear. The front free end paper bears a bookplate, and also has a name and date written in ink.
