He is now given proper credit for being the first to decipher a hieroglyph on the famous Rosetta stone. He conceived the ideas for actuarial tables, and for stabilizing the ships of the British navy. He discovered interferometry using the double slit experiment and figured out the cause for astigmatism. A mild and happy man, he is an ideal role model for the possible good life of a scientist.
