Thornton's "Temple of Flora" was one of the most splendid folios of flower engravings ever published. Since it appeared in 1807, its fame grew until a good copy cost hundreds of pounds and individual plates became collectors pieces. This edition was issued to meet a continuous demand for the book at to mark the twenty-first anniversary of the first fine book designed by George Rainbird. Contains bibliographical notes by Handasyde Buchanan. Printed on thick paper.

Glossy pictorial dust jacket. Various scuffs, marks, chips and tears. Jacket has been repaired on reverse with adhesive tape. Red cloth covered boards with gilt insignia to front and gilt text and decoration to spine. Discolouration to endpapers. Woven head and tail bands. Lightly tanned.
