Two Volumes, 1877. By Alex Brongniart.

The 1877 edition is the most complete version of this fundamental work on the subject of ceramics and pottery. It was the culmination of 40 years of work and study by the author, Brongniart (1770-1847), who was a director of the Sevres factory in 1800 and who was responsible for reintroducing the art of painting on glass. Two volumes only, no atlas. Vol. 1 760 pages, Vol. 2 824 pages.

Both volumes, red cloth backing with some discoloration to the backs of each volume as shown in the photo. Mylar / plastic coverings on both volumes. Front endpaper loose in Vol 2, some tanning evident on the half titles and index pages, but otherwise internally clean with the occasional pencil notation in the margins, some tanning and minor foxing. Hinge cracking in both volumes, although still firmly bound other than front endpaper in vol 2.
