2 volumes, described as Volume 1, Part 1 and Part 2: there never were further volumes. Co-written by William Thomson, Lord Kelvin, perhaps the greatest physicist of the second half of the 19th century.

Part 1 (1879) has 508 pages plus a 34 catalogue of books from CUP. Some sections of pages are loose but complete. A few pages have pencilled annotations. A diagram (on spherical trigonometry) has been drawn on the last page. Part 2 (1883) has 527 pages with index and a 32 page catalogue.  William Henry Besant's signature is on the half-title. Hinges are cracking on both volumes. Matching volumes in brown cloth with gilt lettering. Described as a "New Edition" on the title page.
