Product description

Title: Uniquely Falklands

Author: Andy Jackman
Dan Bernard
Gail Baird

" The Falkland Islands is made up of over 750 mostly un-inhabited tiny islands far away in the South Atlantic Ocean. A British Overseas Territory better known in the UK for the 1982 war with Argentinia, the Islands are 2,655 miles north of the South Pole, 403 miles off the south-eastern tip of South America and almost 8000 miles south of the UK.

Andy Jackman served in the '82 conflict and returned to the Falklands thirty years later in 2012, still in active service. An enthusiastic amateur photographer, he wanted to do something to mark his time there. Through discussion with book publishers and professional photographers Dan Bernard and Gail Baird, it was decided the three would pool their skills and expertise to produce a fine book that would highlight and celebrate the Island' unique qualities and beauty through their landscapes, wildlife and people.

The team were captivated and hooked by this truly incredible place; for its remoteness and isolation, uninterrupted landscapes and vistas, charm and welcome, as well as its abundance of flora, fauna and wildlife. As photographers, Dan and Gail were excited by the quality of light that transformed the landscapes and highlighted otherwise mundane features. As travellers, they revelled in its remote location, harsh way of life and unforgiving conditions, and as a retiring officer, Andy has marked his time in a way that is unforgettable and a fitting legacy with this publication.
