Vintage Midwinter Madeira Plates

£149.99

Product description

A collection of Midwinter's iconic Madeira pattern tableware; 1 oval platter, 350 x 280 mm (13.5 x 11"); 8 dinner plates, 260 mm (10.25") diameter; and 8 side plates, 180 mm (7") diameter. White plates decorated around border with black squares with bold geometrical circles in two shades of blue and purple. Platter and dinner plates are back stamped MADEIRA - DESIGN BY NICHOLAS JENKINS - MIDWINTER FINE TABLEWARE - STAFFORDSHIRE ENGLAND - SHAPES DESIGNED BY THE MARQUIS OF QUEENSBERRY. Side plates bear a similar back stamp but omitting reference to Nicholas Jenkins. A classic 1960's pattern and one of a number commissioned by Roy Midwinter from contemporary designers; David Queensberry was at the time Professor of Ceramics at the Royal College of Art. An indication of its status is that an example is held in the V & A archives! All the pieces have some surface wear and 2 of the dinner plates, and 2 of the side plates, are crazed but none have any chips or imperfections. A beautiful collection for special meals. The courier charge reflects the weight of the pieces (8.5 kilos).
