The author travelled alone, painting by day and writing his impressions in the evenings by campfire or lamp. He had been for many years a member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Exploration Fund. Views depict Jericho, Jaffa, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, the Jordan River and other sites.
