We Shall See Him As He Is

£60.00

Product description

A spiritual autobiography of Elder Sophrony Sakharov of St. John's monastery in Essex. Following a successful career as a painter, and after a brief period of study at the Orthodox Theological Institute in Paris, Archimandrite Sophrony went to Mt. Athos, there to spend fifteen years in a monastery and a further seven as a hermit 'in the desert'. On the Holy Mountain he came into contact with a simple, unlettered monk, Staretz Silouan - lately placed in the canon of saints by the Oecumenical Patriarchate of the Orthodox Church - whom he instantly recognised as a living embodiment of the Holy Fathers, and of whose life and teaching he has published books that have been translated into numerous languages. Documents relating to the canonization are given at the beginning of the present book. In 1959 Archimandrite Sophrony founded the Monastic Community of St John the Baptist in Essex.
