A fabulous antique household encyclopedia of medicine, "adapted for the home, the layman, the family." The book covers human anatomy, treatment of accidents and emergencies, diseases, medicinal plants, household cures, medicinal foods, nursing advice, hygiene instructions, and sexual advice. The text is illustrated with hundreds of in-text engravings and dozens of plates, both black-and-white and colour. Notably, it also includes two "manikins": interactive layered colour illustrations that show the layout of human anatomy.
This bumper volume is in very good condition for its age. Hardbound in leather, which is lightly worn on the spine and hinges.Very small split (5mm) at the top of the front hinge. Binding is very sturdy. Edges of book block are printed with a pattern, which has rubbed off in a few small areas. Attractively marbled endpapers are free from inscriptions. Rear interior hinge is split, but otherwise all pages are free from damage. Frontispiece is lightly foxed, but all other pages are remarkably clean, albeit lightly tanned towards the edges.
A handsome collector's item and "conversation piece" for any collector.
