Vintage Silk Scarf Signed Mary Potter

A beautiful fine silk scarf with a delicate hand rolled edge, possibly designed by Mary Potter a painter now recognised as one of the foremost British painters.

Mary Potter (1900 – 1981) studied at the Slade School of fine Art and exhibited from the early 1920’s.
She was commissioned to paint at least one portrait for the Rowntree’s Aero Girls campaign her son Julian Potter worked for the advertising agency J Walter Thompson. J W T who ran the Aero advertising campaign commissioned portraits all of which were painted by different artists and were used on posters advertising Rowntree’s Aero chocolate bars.
It is possible that the scarf in this listing bearing the signature Mary Potter was also designed by her as a commission from a fashion house or scarf manufacturer.

29 x 28 inches 74 x 71 cm.
No composition or care label.
In fair vintage condition the silk is very fine and the weave has become separated in numerous places, There are a few small lipstick marks. none of the faults detract from the overall look of the scarf.

A lovely vintage scarf in a gossamer light silk, glamorous and warm a rare scarf for the scarf lover or collector.
