Stewarding structure

How the roles fit together

The majority of the 5,000 people who volunteer with us are stewards, but we also have a number of roles that give people the opportunity to take on more responsibility. These roles are vital to making sure our operation works effectively. If you're interested in being a Steward Supervisor or taking on one of the roles in our Shift Management Team, let us know in your application. The Shift Management Team report into our Stewarding Coordinators,  the Oxfam staff that organise our stewarding presence each year.

Stewards and Supervisors

Stewards make up the majority of Oxfam's presence at each festival. They are the front-line of Oxfam stewarding - the eyes and ears of the festival. Stewards work in teams at different locations across the festival site and each team will have an assigned Supervisor, who is the first port of call for questions and guidance.

When you apply to steward with Oxfam for the first time, you will be give the role of steward - unless you feel you have the relevant skills and register your interest in a supervisory role.

Steward Supervisors

Supervisors are responsible for a group of stewards during a shift. The role is varied and a Supervisor can be located in a static position with their stewarding team, or they can be responsible for a wider area with stewards at multiple locations. The different elements of a Supervisors role are:

  • Overseeing campsites, gates, music tents and stages - and any other key areas of the festival site.
  • Being the first port of call for questions from their group of stewards.
  • Managing the positioning of their stewards to ensure all locations are covered and all stewards are allocated breaks.
  • Constant communication with Stewards Control (Oxbox) to report issues or receive instructions.
