The Israeli military has killed over 62,000 Palestinians

At least 62,000 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli military during the conflict, including thousands of children.

The small number of hospitals that are partly operational are struggling to cope with the number of casualties, and are critically low on supplies.

Israel continues to use food and water as weapons of war

Israel is blocking all but a trickle of life-saving aid into Gaza. People are struggling to access basics like food, water, medicine and shelter. Hundreds of people have been killed while seeking food at distribution sites. Thousands more have been injured.

All of Gaza is facing a man-made famine, and there is not enough clean, safe water to drink. Starvation is widespread, and children and families are already dying from hunger.

Homes have been destroyed

Many people remain living in makeshift tents and shelters which are overcrowded and have no privacy.

Hygiene and health conditions are catastrophic

Over 80% of sanitation infrastructure and services have been severely damaged or destroyed. More than 90% of the population has limited access to water, or is experiencing water insecurity.

The Israeli military bombardment, destruction of infrastructure, and blockade on goods entering Gaza have made a full-scale humanitarian response extremely difficult.

Despite huge obstacles, Oxfam staff and partners are doing everything possible to provide life-saving support amid a near-total siege. We are desperately waiting to scale up humanitarian work as soon as more aid is allowed in.

Our colleagues in Gaza are working tirelessly to support those facing starvation, mass displacement, and the collapse of essential services.

Your donations have helped Oxfam teams and partners reach more than 1.2 million people with essential support since October 2023. This includes:

• Emergency food assistance, food parcels, cash and vouchers.
• Supporting home gardens and small-scale food production.
• Clean water and sanitation by trucking in water and repairing badly damaged water and wastewater pipelines.
• First aid kits, hygiene kits, protection kits and cleaning supplies.
• Blankets, mattresses and sleeping mats to families forced to live in tents.
• Legal aid and protection against gender-based violence.
• Professional psycho-social support, especially for children deeply traumatised by the horrors they are enduring. This includes recreational activities to help restore a sense of normality.

Oxfam has worked in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and Israel since the 1950s. We have supported communities in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, to tackle the root causes of conflict, build resilience, and protect people’s rights.

Our partners include:

The Palestinian Medical Relief Society, Juzoor, The Cultural & Free Thoughts Association, Palestinian Environmental Friends, Palestine Agricultural Relief Committee, Atfaluna, The Association for Woman and Child Protection, the Economic and Social Development Centre of Palestine, and Al Bayader.

In the West Bank, the ongoing violence from illegal settlers and Israeli forces has led to a significant rise in the displacement of Palestinian communities and worsening humanitarian conditions.

Critical infrastructure and hundreds of homes have been deliberately destroyed. Palestinians in the West Bank are also facing a severe economic crisis and poverty is increasing, with hundreds of thousands of people losing their permits to work in Israel.

Oxfam is helping families in need by providing food parcels, including fresh food. We are also working with our partners to support farmers to stay on their land, and women and young people with employment opportunities.

How we spend your money

For every £1 you donate to this emergency appeal, we will allocate 9p of your donation to cover general support and running costs. There is a small chance that we will raise more money than is needed for this appeal. If this happens, we'll spend any additional funds on other Oxfam projects – wherever the need is greatest.

*Funds raised from this appeal will support people in Gaza, and may also be used to support communities in the West Bank and Lebanon.
