This series of lessons is suitable for use in Year 2 and Year 3
(6-8 year olds). If you are following the Literacy Strategy, it
is particularly designed to fit with Year 2, term 1.
Note: Some of the activities used in these lessons
are based on ideas from Our
World, Our Rights by Amnesty International.
Comprehension and composition (text-level work)
- T4 To understand time and sequential relationships in stories
- what happened when.
- T5 To identify and discuss reasons for events in stories, linked
to plot.
- T6 To discuss familiar story themes and link to own experience
in same or similar form.
Grammar and punctuation (sentence-level work)
- S2 To find examples, in fiction and non-fiction, of words and
phrases that link sentences, such as 'after', 'meanwhile', 'during',
'before', 'next', 'after a while'.
- S4 To re-read own writing for sense and punctuation.
Spelling and vocabulary (word-level work)
- W10 new words from reading linked to particular topics, to build
individual collections of personal interest or significant words.
