On the 14th September 2004, some of the biggest names in music
joined together at the London Hammersmith Apollo in a special
benefit concert to highlight Oxfam's Make
Trade Fair campaign.
As Minnie Driver explained, “We owe it to people
without voices to speak out on their behalf.”
Following an earlier event in 2002 when Miss Dynamite, Noel Gallagher
and Coldplay performed together, all proceeds from the evening
went to Oxfam to help it continue its work drawing attention to
the impact of unfair trade rules on the developing world.

At the moment many poor farmers are forced to sell
their goods at very low prices, letting big companies keep the
profits for themselves. The current trade rules make people suffer
more so Oxfam has been working to make trade fair and help people
in the developing world lift themselves out of poverty.
Headlining the concert were R.E.M. who were joined on stage by
Chris Martin from Coldplay for
a suprise collaboration.
"I was introduced to the idea of fair trade because
I'm a massive Coldplay fan, so I'd like to thank Chris Martin"
said lead singer Michael Stipe.
Also performing were Razorlight, Jamelia, Minnie
Driver, The Thrills and Ricky Gervais.
The evening was hosted by Dermot O'Leary.
