By giving shares to Oxfam you are doing something really amazing - you are joining thousands of people, all over the world, who are working to bring lasting solutions to poverty and suffering.

It is Oxfam's policy that, when we receive gifts of shares, we sell them as soon as is practicable. This is because if we held on to them their value might change and we believe that we should not speculate with gifts entrusted to Oxfam, but use them as soon as possible to relieve poverty and suffering around the world.

Ms Clarke was paid a share bonus and she sold it on behalf of Oxfam for £5,000.

In Malawi, £5,000 could provide 20 families with a dairy cow, giving each family a source of milk and the means to make a living.

Mr Beattie received a windfall of 100 shares in a company. 

He sold them for £1,326 and covered it with a Gift Aid declaration, increasing the gift to £1,700. A gift of £1,700 is enough to build a whole classroom, and equip it with everything that children need to get the education they deserve.
