Fighting in and around Goma in November has captured attention, but is just the tip of the iceberg of the crisis in DRC. Since April, the number of armed groups in eastern Congo has mushroomed, attacking civilians and forcing hundreds of thousands of people to flee. In the last couple of weeks at least 100,000 people have been affected by the violence, while over 750,000 people are thought to have been displaced since the start of 2012.
