The past 14 months of Israel’s war on Gaza have been brutal and catastrophic. In northern Gaza, virtually no water, food or medical supplies have been allowed to enter for over 60 days. Tens of thousands of people are being bombarded and starved to death by the Israeli military. The humanitarian crisis is the worst it’s ever been.

The UK Government is complicit whilst it continues to allow arms to be sold to Israel. This includes crucial parts for the F-35 fighter jets that are dropping bombs on Gaza every day.

Your MP works for you. Tell them to speak up in Parliament on 16 December to demand the UK stops all arms sales to Israel. And does more to help secure an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

Dear {contact_data~firstName} {contact_data~lastName} MP,

I am one of your constituents writing to raise my concerns of the urgent and grave humanitarian crisis and ongoing devastation being inflicted on people in Gaza by Israel's military offensive. I am also writing to ask you to attend the Westminster Hall debate taking place on 16th December at 4:30pm on Israel and Palestine, including to debate the e-petition calling on the UK to immediately halt arms sales to Israel.

The past 14 months of war has been catastrophic. Horrific and relentless attacks on Gaza by the Israeli Government have killed over 44,000 Palestinians and caused a humanitarian crisis of horrendous magnitude. In northern Gaza the situation is desperate. Israeli forces have escalated their assault to a horrifying level of atrocity and ordered the forced displacement of hundreds of thousands of people. Israel is using starvation as a weapon of war leading the IPC’s Famine Review Committee to warn of imminent famine. More than 60,000 people are thought to be trapped there, starving to death. Virtually no aid has been allowed to enter the north Gaza governorate since 6th October 2024. If this deliberate blocking of aid continues, by 16th December - the day of the debate – people in northern Gaza will have been denied aid for 70 days straight. Northern Gaza is being wiped off the map.

However, the UK Government is instead perpetuating and complicit in Israel’s atrocities through its ongoing arms transfers to Israel. The suspension of just 29 out of 361 licences for the sale of arms to the Government of Israel did not go nearly far enough. The Government has admitted there is a risk that arms manufactured in the UK could be used in violations of international humanitarian law – notably components for the F-35 fighter jet. This fighter jet is currently being used by Israel to unleash horror on the people of Gaza, dropping bombs which are killing civilians and destroying homes. The UK currently provides 15% of all the components for these jets, without which they could not fly. 
Under domestic and international law, the UK must stop all arms licences if there is a risk they could be used in violations of international humanitarian law- war crimes and crimes against humanity. There are no exceptions or loopholes. By continuing to allow the sale of vital F-35 components to Israel through the global supply chain, the UK is breaking its legal obligations and is an ally to atrocities.

The International Court of Justice has found that there is a risk that genocide is being committed by Israel in Gaza. The UN Commission of Inquiry has concluded that the Government of Israel is committing war crimes and the crime against humanity of extermination. I do not want the UK to be complicit in these atrocities any further. The UK must stop all arms sales to Israel immediately. 

An immediate and permanent ceasefire is urgently needed and is the most important humanitarian intervention for people in Gaza. A ceasefire is the only way to stop atrocities being committed and ensure humanitarian aid can get to those who desperately need it. It is also the best way of ensuring the safe return of the hostages to Israel. It is not enough for the UK to simply call for a ceasefire – it must do everything it can to act and help secure one, immediately. 

Recognising the state of Palestine is also a significant first step towards affirming the Palestinian peoples inalienable right to self-determination in accordance with international law. Such a step must not just be symbolic but be part of an irreversible strategy to end the occupation as well as ensure respect fundamental human rights for all. I hope you support this and can also amplify this position.   

As your constituent, I am asking you to take two actions to raise these grave concerns and help to push our government to do it all it can to help secure a ceasefire:

• Please attend the Westminster Hall debate taking place on 16th December at 4:30 PM on Israel and Palestine, and speak up for humanity and call on the UK to end all arms sales to Israel immediately – the partial suspension in place is not enough.
• Write to the Trade Secretary and Foreign Secretary highlighting the grave situation in Gaza and the UK’s complicity in it, and call on them to end all arms sales to Israel now. 

Please continue to use your voice in any way you can to raise these issues. People in Gaza can wait no longer.
