The 2026 Scottish election is a chance to demand bold action for a fairer, greener, more caring Scotland. We need leaders who'll maximise the use of the Scottish Parliament’s powers to help deliver progress, while strongly pushing the UK Government to do more too.

Hard times don’t have to last, and a better Scotland is possible.

Right now, too many families are trapped in poverty, public services are stretched, and climate impacts are hitting the poorest communities hardest.

The 2026 Scottish election is a chance for leaders to say how they’ll use every lever in their power to tackle these challenges and deliver the Scotland we want.

Because a different Scotland is possible, one where:

Everyone can afford life’s essentials
Homes are warm, safe, and affordable
Jobs are steady, fairly paid, and protect our planet
Support is there when life gets tough
Public services are strong and ready to help
Pollution is reduced, so that people and nature can thrive
Those with the most finally pay their fair share
Scotland contributes to a fairer, safer world

But this only happens if we demand it. Now is the time to act.

Scotland is at a crossroad. As the 2026 election approaches, as someone who supports Oxfam Scotland’s vision for a fairer, greener country, I’m asking you to show real leadership and commit to building a Scotland where everyone can thrive.

Too many people are struggling to get by, while a small number have far more than they need. This yawning gap is helping to lock families into poverty, with nearly one in five people, including 240,000 children, living without enough. At the same time, the devastating consequences of the climate crisis are increasingly visible to us all.

We need bold action. I’m calling on you to commit to:

• Taking urgent action to help end poverty in Scotland, so everyone can afford at least the basics, work is fair and secure, and no one is left behind.
• Combating the yawning inequality gap, with a clear plan to make it happen.
• Stepping up for Scotland’s future by making the wealthiest pay more for their pollution, like taxing private jets, as well as delivering the actions needed to ensure we hit our climate goals for a safer, greener Scotland for all.
• Properly valuing and investing in care work so that no carer, paid or unpaid, lives in poverty, and that care is at the very heart of Scotland’s future.
• Reforming our tax system, including replacing the Council Tax, to make sure those with the most pay their fair share, while raising more money for the things we all – particularly those on low-incomes – may need like the NHS, care and social security.
• Standing up for what’s right in a world of multiple crises while acting to tackle poverty, inequality, and the impacts of climate change everywhere, not just in Scotland.

This is about the kind of Scotland we want to be: a country where everyone has enough to live on, a warm home and stronger public services. A Scotland’s that keeps our climate promises while standing with those in poverty and crisis internationally.

Please show the leadership Scotland needs – now and throughout the next Scottish Parliament – and commit to maximising the use of the Scottish Parliament’s powers to deliver bold, fair action on poverty and the climate, at home and beyond.
