Oxfam responds to Baroness Chapman’s remarks at today’s International Development Committee

Responding to Government remarks at today’s International Development Committee, Anna Marriott, Senior Policy Advisor at Oxfam, said:

“The Government has shown callous disregard for the devastating and deadly impacts of the unnecessary cuts being made to the UK aid budget. It is an affront to the millions of UK taxpayers who value aid not as charity but as justice, humanity, and solidarity.

“It is wrong that the Government is choosing to take urgently needed resources away from people living in poverty, facing climate disasters and conflict at a time when the extreme wealth of the ultra-rich is sky-rocketing and goes largely untaxed. We urge them to think again.”
