Responding to the UK Budget, Dr Silvia Galandini, Oxfam’s domestic poverty lead said:
“The Chancellor’s extra support for early education and childcare in England is welcome. But while there is some relief for parents, much more needs to be done for a childcare sector that is at crisis point – the funding announced today does not match the level of need.
“While the Government has taken a small step forward on childcare, the lack of new funds for social care is stark. Our country is held up by an invisible network of carers, both paid and unpaid, many of whom are women. But the care infrastructure that is supposed to support them is broken and millions of people are left to pick up the pieces every day, with too many living in poverty."
