Reacting to the King's Speech, Silvia Galandini, Oxfam's Domestic Poverty Lead said:
“We welcome the focus on sustainable, economic growth - a key challenge for the Government will be to ensure that it truly benefits those who need it the most. It is a myth that growth alone will reduce poverty in the UK.
“We want to see a clear plan from the new government, one that is ambitious and looks to solutions that already exist, like increasing taxes on millionaires and abolishing the two-child benefits cap.
“As the country transitions to a net-zero economy, the measures to get us there must be fair and just; to ensure those on low incomes can benefit, as well as fast, to prevent yet more devastating loss and damage for communities around the world.”
