Reacting to the Chancellor’s comments at the World Economic Forum that she will amend the Finance Bill to relax planned changes to the non-dom tax regime following concerns raised by wealthy UK residents, Anna Marriott, Oxfam Inequality Policy Lead said:
“It is of deep concern that the UK Chancellor is making concessions to the super-rich at Davos while the appeals of those struggling to afford the essentials back home are being ignored.
“In the UK, billionaire wealth has surged for the second year in a row while more than one in five people live in poverty. It is unjustifiable for the Government to allow the super-rich to benefit from living in the UK while paying a lower tax rate than everyone else.”
