In response to today’s Sunday Times Tax List, Rebecca Gowland, Oxfam’s Head of Inequality Campaign said:
“The tax paid by the individuals who meet their obligations to society should be warmly recognised. It should increase the spotlight on those who use accountancy tricks to avoid paying their fair share, depriving the Government of money that could be used to fight poverty.
“The size of the tax paid by the richest is a stark reminder of the levels of inequality we face. The fact that they are also likely to be paying a lower proportion of their income in taxes than the poorest 10% should raise serious questions about the policy choices made by governments of all political stripes over recent decades.”
