Today at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool members have voted to accept the findings of the UN Commission of Inquiry, which concluded Israel "has committed genocide" in Gaza. Reacting to the news, Oxfam GB spokesperson Rhaea Russell-Cartwright, said:
"We welcome the news that the Prime Minister's own party conference has demanded the UK government take urgent steps to end the genocide in Gaza, echoing the voices of Oxfam, our partners and other NGOs in Gaza, and most recently the UN Independent Commission.
It is reprehensible that the UK government has dismissed genocide claims in Gaza while admitting the devastation is 'utterly appalling'.
The UK cannot condemn atrocities with one hand while enabling them with the other.
The Prime Minister must now act by suspending all arms exports to Israel and honouring its obligations under international law; demanding a ceasefire and calling on Israel to lift the siege to allow critical aid into Gaza."
