Responding to the end of this week’s High Court proceedings brought by Al-Haq and GLAN against the UK Government for its continued licensing of some arms sales to Israel, in which the court recognised Oxfam as an intervener, Oxfam GB CEO, Dr Halima Begum, said:
“The Court has heard Oxfam’s legal submissions and our evidence this week on how Israel has systematically used water as a weapon of war in Gaza. Our submission documented how Israel has breached International Humanitarian Law by attacking and destroying crucial water and sanitation infrastructures, which the people of Gaza depend on to survive.
“This case has been ongoing for 17 months, in which time tens of thousands of people have been killed. The Government doesn’t have to wait for the court’s decision to suspend all such arms sales. It could decide to act decisively now, before many more lives are lost.”
