Millions of people are facing extreme hunger

East Africa Hunger Crisis

We're working with our partners and communities across the Horn of Africa. But it’s a race against time and we need your help to do more. Please give today.

Families need a lifeline now. Here’s what your donation can do:

  • A jerry can being filled with water

£19 could provide a hygiene kit

with soap, a jerry can for carrying water and water purification tablets.

  • A stack of Somalian banknotes

£31 could provide cash to a family of four

to buy enough food for 2 weeks.

  • A pair of hands hold seeds

£60 could help support 20 women

on climate-resistant farming methods, and seeds and tools to grow vegetables.

The worst drought in decades

Ongoing conflict, the worst drought in decades, and years of severe flooding in other areas have combined to cause the crisis we face today. The situation is compounded further by the conflict in Ukraine which has disrupted supply chains and sent food prices rocketing.

Your support could help us work with local partners to distribute emergency cash to families like Mareya’s. That cash can be a lifeline, helping people to buy food and other essentials they need to survive.

How we spend your money

For every £1 you donate to this emergency appeal, we will allocate 9p of your donation to cover general support and running costs. There is a small chance that we will raise more money than is needed for this appeal. If this happens, we'll spend any additional funds on other Oxfam projects – wherever the need is greatest.

Oxfam and its partners in East Africa are currently helping people like Mareya with life-saving support in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and South Sudan. By providing clean water and cash assistance. But we need your help to reach more people.
