Women who lead the way
In northern Ghana, Oxfam and local partners are supporting women to build sustainable livelihoods through entrepreneurship training, business support and improved access to equipment.
Safura knows what it feels like when hard work does not lead to a reliable income. After joining an entrepreneurship programme supported by Oxfam and local partners, she gained new skills, equipment and opportunities to grow her shea butter business.
Today, Safura runs a successful enterprise with a reliable, year-round income that helps support her family.
Safe education for girls
In Kenya, Merti Integrated Development Program (MID-P) and Oxfam are working together to improve access to period products, enabling girls to stay in school, pursue their education, and break the stigma surrounding menstruation.
Previously, menstruation often meant missing school and facing isolation. MID-P and Oxfam have worked together to support Jillo and millions of other girls, providing resources that put choices about their health and wellbeing back in their hands.
Equal rights for girls
In Zimbabwe, Oxfam and local partners are helping girls stay in school by improving access to period products, menstrual health education and safe sanitation facilities.
Miranda knows how difficult it can be to manage a period without privacy and support. At her secondary school, many girls missed lessons each month or stayed home during their periods.
With support from Oxfam and local partners, students can now manage their periods with dignity and miss fewer days of learning.
Financial independence for women
In central Nigeria, Oxfam and local partners are supporting women to strengthen their livelihoods, grow their businesses and build greater financial independence.
Sarah knows how difficult it can be when rising costs and unreliable harvests make it harder to make ends meet. After taking part in a programme supported by Oxfam and local partners, she gained the confidence and opportunities to expand her farming activities, open a shop and invest in grain storage.
Today, Sarah is a successful entrepreneur, with multiple sources of income that help support her family.
