• Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have forced more than one million people to flee their homes, putting additional strain on an already overburdened humanitarian response system in Lebanon.
• A 60-day ceasefire agreement in Lebanon came into effect from 27 November 2024.
• Hundreds of thousands of people are in need of humanitarian aid.
• Prior to this war, millions of people fleeing from the conflict in Syria sought refuge in Lebanon and are now returning to Syria in desperation but the situation is fragile and many are in need of vital support.
• Lebanon has faced crisis after crisis in recent years: a refugee crisis from the war in Syria, COVID-19, the Beirut Blast in 2020, a cholera outbreak in 2022, violent conflicts and an ongoing economic crisis which has resulted in skyrocketing poverty and the collapse of essential public services. It can’t afford to bear the weight of this added disaster on its own.

• Oxfam is responding to the humanitarian need in Lebanon, providing essential support to people who were forced to flee as Israeli airstrikes struck their homes and communities.
• The influx of internally displaced people, primarily from southern Lebanon, has created challenging conditions for local communities, beyond the ability of the Lebanese government and an overloaded humanitarian system to properly meet.
• Oxfam and our partners are supporting internally displaced people in shelters in Beirut, Mount Lebanon and North Lebanon with clean water and sanitation, emergency cash, food, and hygiene and menstrual hygiene kits.

Oxfam has worked in Lebanon since 1993, in partnership with local organisations, to support people with cash, clean water, and sanitation systems as well as income generating opportunities, advocating for women’s rights and reproductive health services, and renewable energy solutions.

We also work with Syrian and Palestinian refugees, as well as Lebanese communities, including people with disabilities and migrant workers.

We work with local partner organisations in North Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley, and Beirut that deeply understand the needs of the communities where they work.

The ongoing hostilities in Lebanon, Gaza and the wider region are making it far harder to respond at the scale that's needed. An immediate and permanent ceasefire is desperately needed.

There is a small chance that we will raise more money than is needed for this appeal. If this happens, we'll spend any additional funds on other Oxfam projects — wherever the need is greatest.
