Reacting to the final Environmental Audit Committee’s Sustainability of the Fashion Industry report, Oxfam’s sustainable fashion spokesperson Fee Gilfeather, said:
“It is incumbent on all fashion retailers and brands to play their part in ending the damaging human and environmental impacts of fast fashion – business as usual is no longer an option.
“Garments must be longer lasting and workers treated fairly. Oxfam already works with brands like Burberry and M&S to prevent clothes being sent to landfill and we are here to help other retailers who want to do the same.
“Shopping at Oxfam is one solution to the ‘throw-away’ culture of clothes by giving clothes another chance to be sold.
“Last night, stars including Stella Tennant, Yasmin Le Bon and Emili Sande on the Fashion Fighting Poverty catwalk showcased the best of Oxfam preloved fashion which looks amazing, is affordable and helps raise money for the world’s poorest people.”
